Submissions

We are now open for submissions! We will close to submissions on 1st March 2012.

Send submissions to: submissions@cutawaymagazine.co.uk

On the subject line of your email enter:

For example:
The Catcher in the Rye-Salinger-Fiction

Attach submissions to your email as a DOC file.

Work should be your own - in English – and not previously published. We do not accept simultaneous submissions. You may submit poetry or fiction, see below for details on multiple submissions.

In the body of your email please include your name, address, pseudonym if desired, email address, story title and a short bio.

Fiction

We are open to international submissions of quality fiction. Send us your best short work up to 3000 words.  There is no lower limit but we’d prefer 1000-2000. We enjoy reading both literary fiction and modern genre fiction, but we are specifically looking for something a little bit different. Experimental, postmodernist, borderline speculative. Break some rules and don’t confine yourself.

Please submit only one piece of fiction.

Format your piece with double line spacing, Times New Roman size 12 and display your name, story title and page number at the top of each page. Failure to layout your story as requested might prejudice us against your masterpiece.

Poetry

We are open to international submissions of high quality poetry. We do not prejudice against rhymed poetry, or free verse, but the content must be original and current. Postmodern poetry, poetry which breaks rules and discusses everyday life would make us happy. Romantic love poems full of archaic terms, clichés and abstractions would make us oh so miserable.

Please submit up to four pieces of poetry.

There isn’t a fixed length limit but if it’s going on longer than twenty five lines it has to be good. Format your poems as you would for any magazine, as they would be published, aligned to the left margin, single line spacing, Times New Roman 12pt etc.

Rights

We ask for First British Rights for published pieces and exclusive rights for a month after publication (May-June 2012) we ask that if you publish your piece in the UK again you credit us as the original publishers. After your work is published by us it can only be marketed as a reprint in the UK.  We do not publish any work on our website and do not archive any pieces; you are submitting to be included in our spring anthology of stories and poems and will be paid with a copy of the publication.  If your piece has been published already in the US let us know where when you submit, like wise Australia/Canada etc.

Deadline

Whilst we will endeavour to respond to every submission personally, if you haven’t heard from us by April 1st 2012 then thank you for your submission but we have not been able to use it.

Payment

Featured authors will receive a copy of the magazine. As this is our first issue we are unable to pay our writers but can offer them publication in a high quality magazine with an ISBN number available on Amazon.
